2024 speakers

Barry Wensel

Barry Wensel was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania, in October 1944. His entire life has revolved around learning about mature whitetail bucks and how they think. In one span of just eight years, he professionally guided over two hundred bowhunters to record-book class, free-ranging, fair-chase, wild whitetails for an unheard of 97% success rate.

Over the years Barry has been a featured speaker on whitetail deer hunting at all the State Whitetail Deer Classics, major sports shows (including a thirteen-state speaking tour with the NRA) and dozens of banquets nationally. For fifteen straight years Barry ran the first ever "whitetail deer hunting school" (whitetail bootcamps), which were basically three-day, all inclusive, how-to-hunt whitetail clinics to hundreds of enthusiastic, appreciative attendees.

Barry's hunting techniques and strategies are somewhat different but are extremely popular because they work! The fact he has personally taken dozens of free-ranging, giant, fully mature trophy bucks, including at least four B&C class bucks all with his recurve bow... and all at under fifteen yards, attest to the fact his strategies work, if he can do it... you can do it!

His methods are totally legal yet are NOT common knowledge. At this stage in his life, he wants to share the secrets that have been so successful for him all these years. He WANTS you to succeed. He feels honored to give back to the sport that has so enriched his life.

Gene Wensel

Sharing the same passion as his brother Barry, Gene is also a recurve bow hunter, with whitetail giants on his tab. Gene was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania in 1944. He spent his early years in New York, Connecticut and Vermont before he went to college in Indiana. Gene moved to Montana with his family in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley near Hamilton.

Gene is considered by many to be the “thinking man’s deer hunter”. It is his in-depth analysis of whitetail behavior, patterning and sign interpretation, that sets his books apart from most of the clone books on whitetails. Not only is Gene considered by many to be one of the nation’s top deer hunting authorities, but he is also an enthusiastic author, lecturer, wildlife manager, and accomplished bowhunter. His latest endeavors are his broadhead - the Wensel Woodsman and his do-it-yourself deer hunts through Wensel Bros. Limited - yet this hard-core bowhunter still finds time to do what he loves best - hunt big bucks.

Don Higgins

Don Higgins owns Higgins Outdoors, a multi-faceted business centered around whitetail land management and hunting mature bucks. Don is one of the most sought-after whitetail consultants in the world and has a "dream team" of other consultants working under his guidance. He is the founder and president of Real World Wildlife Products, host of the Chasing Giants podcast, editor of Whitetail Life magazine, author of two books on hunting trophy whitetails, seminar speaker, video personality and outspoken conservative Christian who uses his platforms to lead others to Christ.

Don has shot 3 bucks topping 200" and has several consulting clients who have shot bucks scoring over 200" after Don visited their property and designed a plan for them to follow. His top 5 whitetails average over 204" and these bucks came from 4 different properties. Three of those were simply permission properties where Don knocked on doors. These properties had no food plots or other habitat improvements.

Terry Peer

As an avid outdoorsman, Terry Peer was presented the opportunity to host the Chasing Giants Podcast with his good friend Don Higgins. Starting the Lester’s Feet Foundation provided a way to use his passion for helping kids and love of hunting to help families in need. Terry named the foundation after his late grandfather, Lester Shickle. Lester had really big feet and Terry always wanted to find ways to fill his shoes. This foundation is an extension of the generosity and kindness his grandfather showed throughout his life

Alan Foster

I’m Alan Foster and I live in Shelbyville, Illinois. I moved to Shelby County back in the 70’s because of family and the great hunting & fishing opportunities here. It was a great decision on my part. I just turned 70, so I guess I’m an elder in the whitetail community. My passion for bowhunting trophy whitetails was through the 80’s & 90’s, so I suppose I’m old school by today's standards. I wrote a number of articles for whitetail publications back in the day trying to pass on some of the knowledge I’d gained. What I find interesting, is that old school ways can be just as effective now as they were then! When combined with today's technology in the right way, they can help make a true trophy hunter even deadlier. I don’t hunt deer anymore but I still enjoy helping dedicated hunters in their pursuit of a giant buck. Trophy whitetails are special creatures, and I’ve always remained fascinated by them. Good Hunting!

Bobby Worthington

He is a proud life-long resident of Bledsoe County, Tennessee. From this rural background was a true Mountain Man who learned to commune with nature and live off the land. He has a great appreciation for his heritage and for the history of archery; which has been a major part of his life since he was 10 years old. Currently he is a competitive archer, competing in RU and Traditional classes. Bobby is recognized at competitive archery events around the country by his trademark, Art Young style hat which has become as much a part of him as his faithful green bow. Bobby is also a published author who has written books on the subject of bow-hunting trophy whitetail deer. Additionally, he enjoys freelance writing for several outdoor magazines. Some with-in literary circles have compared and called him the modern day C.S. Lewis. Bobby incorporates his works about faith, family, life, hunting and nature with wisdom, unique insight and intervals of wit and humor. In the early and mid-1990s, Bobby shot in a lot of traditional archery tournaments. Then he began concentrating on bow-hunting and writing about this subject; starting his writing career in 2000 when he wrote his first article for NAWM (North American Whitetail Magazine). Bobby has had seven bucks featured in NAWM. This is more than any other hunter in history, and all were bow kills. In 2014, he began seriously shooting competitive archery. As a result, Bobby has become a much sought after archery instructor and speaker; currently conducting classes throughout the United States. Bobby's accomplishments and achievements in archery are numerous.  Bobby has 5 World Titles and 17 National Championships to his credit. He was the 2016 and 2017 IBO "Shooter of the year" and the 2018 ASA "Shooter of the year." Along the way he has set world and national records.

 Joe Miles

Joe Miles, like many others, started hunting at a very young age. He was lucky to grow up in a hunting family, with a father who taught him much of the outdoors and who helped him take his first whitetail at just 5 years old. At 15, Joe gave up the rifle and started bowhunting full time. He learned a lot chasing the heavily hunted and pressured whitetails in the South and has been able to grow his hunting passion into full-time businesses — Sporting Adventures International and ASIO Gear.

After college, Joe went to Africa where he was accepted to the very prestigious professional hunter’s school, G.A. Steenkamp. Upon completion, he spent the next few years working as an apprentice under different Professional Hunters around Africa and later received his full Professional Hunters (PH) license. He is one of only a few US citizens to have held a cherished PH license. Joe has been very fortunate over the years and has hunted or guided in 15 different countries. He has also taken the free-range world record Red Stag and Pere David’s Deer with a bow in Argentina.

Furthermore, over the last few years, Joe has had the opportunity to undertake some of the most extreme expeditions-type mountain hunts from Alaska to Kyrgyzstan, which helped him tremendously in understanding the importance of good quality apparel. Such experience helped in the creation of ASIO Gear. His true passion has always been whitetail bow hunting and he has said, “Guys that can consistently kill mature whitetails with a bow, year in and year out, can be successful hunting anything on the planet.”

Joe now spends the better part of the fall bow hunting deer all over North America and has taken over 100 whitetails with his bow; many of which are record book quality bucks and seven have been over 170” P&Y (three of which are over 180” P&Y).  He really enjoys hunting across the full whitetail range for different deer and figuring out and moving in on a particular animal.  In his opinion, hunting big mature whitetails is by far the greatest challenge in the hunting arena and he hopes to keep doing it for many years to come.

Mike Yoder

Mike, the founder of Drone Deer Recovery, had been flying drones long before he started his company. Mike’s inspiration for the business arose from his love of hunting and technology on one hand and his unique upbringing on the other (he comes from an Amish community in Ohio, where hard work, setting goals, and business-building is the norm). After seeing a Wisconsin hunter use a drone for game recovery, Mike realized that using a drone to find downed game was far less disruptive and more efficient than tracking dogs or trail cameras. Drone Deer Recovery initially focused on using drones to help hunters locate downed game. The company was an instant success, so Mike expanded the company by offering drone licensing packages that provide training and equipment to operators looking to start their own drone location businesses. They're equipped with advanced drones to help hunters track down their deer carcasses quickly, ensuring no animal is lost and every hunt is honored. With virtually endless possibilities for drone uses, Mike sees Drone Deer Recovery as the Uber of the drone industry, jump-starting drone entrepreneurs in their home states. Drone Deer Recovery's edge comes from understanding their customers' needs deeply. Mike and his team of drone pilots aren't just tech experts; they're seasoned hunters dedicated to the tradition and future of the sport.

The Call Outdoors

The Call Outdoors team has been videoing Turkey hunts for over 15 years. We're proud to have multiple Grand Slam hunts under our belts and have enjoyed hunting all across the US and Canada.  We have put together a dynamic seminar that will include calling demonstrations (live, from state champions) and many tips from our perspective in the turkey woods. From scouting to harvesting and a few misses along the way, you'll see some exciting footage from 100% fair chase hunts. For those experienced hunters we'll share some advanced tactics that will set them apart from others in the woods. No matter your experience, turkey hunters will glean helpful information that will give them a great head start for the seasons ahead. We have a passion for turkey hunting, decades of experience, and a love for the hunting community and we can't wait to share what we've learned with you all.

Waterfowl Hunting has also become a passion for our team here at The Call Outdoors. There’s nothing quite like feeling the wingbeat of the birds landing at your feet. From scouting, decoy set ups, to calling tactics & blind concealment, we are going to share tips that have made us successful over the years.

Sparky Sparks

An avid outdoorsman, Sparky (The Joker), took his love of hunting and has grown to be one of the most sought-after hunting companions in North America. Sparky provides individuals with an unparalleled opportunity to see and experience what nature has to offer. Sparky began filming his memorable excursions and now has 14 seasons of sportsman shows featured on multiple TV networks, as well as an assortment of hunting DVDs. His success in this area can greatly be attributed to his zest for life, wacky ways, and his respect and appreciation for the outdoors. After retiring from a 20-year career as a firefighter, Sparky is definitely “LIVING THE DREAM.”

Jeremy Evans

Jeremy Evans, the author of "Mauled: Lessons Learned from a Grizzly Bear Attack." In this gripping memoir, Jeremy takes us on a harrowing journey through the wilderness, where he faced a life-threatening encounter with a grizzly bear. His story is a testament to resilience and survival, as he not only lived to tell the tale but also extracted profound lessons from the ordeal. Join us as we delve into Jeremy's courageous narrative, offering valuable insights into the human spirit's capacity to endure and learn from the most challenging of circumstances. "Mauled" is a riveting exploration of nature's raw power and the indomitable strength of the human spirit.

Max Wilson

Max was born on September 15, 1996. He grew up playing rugby and football; however, at a young age the Sport of Fishing became his calling. At the age of 16, Max started his Professional Fishing Career. Max graduated high school in 2015 then served in the Marine Corps Reserve as a Generator Mechanic for six years. His love for the outdoors is endless. When he is not fishing, he is guiding for Whitetails in Buffalo County, or preparing for the upcoming fishing season.

Over the last decade, Max averages 20-25 Walleye Tournaments per season which translates to 250-300 days on the water each year. He competes in the NWT, AIM, and MWC series, where he has earned 7 Major Wins, 64 top 10 finishes, 2 All-American finishes, 2018 National Walleye Tour Champion, 2018 & 2019 MWC Team of the Year, and the Team Captain of the USA National Predator Team. Max plans to continue building his career and brand for years to come. He is thankful for every opportunity that fishing has given him thus far.

Jeremy Reese

My name is Jeremy Reese and I’m from Columbus, Ohio. My fishing roots come from my grandfather who was a successful walleye fisherman on Lake Erie. Growing up doing just that led to a deep love and passion for the Great Lakes fisheries. At age 12 my bass fishing chapter opened and continues to build. Although I have had the opportunity to chase bass all around the Eastern United States with success, my love and focus remains on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, hunting giant bronzebacks. Although, for most of the season, you will find me up north on the lakes. My fishing mentors and friends mean the most to me and when not on the water, you can find me with them or in my shop preparing for my next trip.

Mike Raber

Mike Raber is a Major League Fishing tournament angler with hometown roots right here in LaGrange County. Mike was born and raised in Wolcottville, IN and attended Lakeland High School before he struck out to chase his fishing career that has recently reached new heights with Major League Fishing. Mike has competed in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League, MLF Toyota Series and now in 2024 he will compete at the Professional level with the Tackle Warehouse Invitationals. Along the way, Mike has competed in 39 Major League Fishing events notching 11 Top Tens, and a win on the Detroit River.

Mike is a versatile angler who travels the Eastern part of the US and catches them however he has to. However, he is addicted to smallmouth bass and has a strong love for Lake Erie. Last year alone, Mike along with his tournament partners, racked up over $52,000 in winnings on the Great Lake. His blend of electronics knowledge and experience on the water has proven a deadly combo chasing the northern smallmouths. He plans to put that to use this season on famous lakes of the Midwest and Northeast.

When you catch Mike off the water you may find him at Tackle Shack LLC in Middlebury, spending time with his wife Spencer, or pursuing his other passion, hunting whitetail deer. You can find Mike in the Tackle Shack booth when he is not on the seminar stage.

Andy Andreas

Andy Andreas has owned multiple apple orchards in his career, the most important of which was the property with over 200 apple varieties, located in central Ohio. It was his observations there, from what he calls the “Genetic Gold Mine”, that started off his career in breeding apples. Only the best of the best trees were bred and crossed and thousands of seeds produced and then planted. Trials were conducted and trees were culled if they didn't provide an excellent eating experience, high vigor, growth rates, and disease resistance under no spray conditions. These trials finally hit the mark, with brand new apple varieties having all the desired features. Third party validation also backed up their findings. Ohio State University conducted DNA analysis, and the results showed that extreme high disease resistance had indeed been bred into the selected new varieties. With his vast expertise, Andy is an accomplished and respected apple breeder, with multiple apple patents currently underway. He has made it possible for the serious land manager to now have trees with the hardiness needed to bear consistently.

One of the main accomplishments has been to produce varieties that do not need the twelve or more spray applications that commercial orchards must apply annually to get a crop. It is important to note that of those twelve spray applications, eight are specifically targeted to prevent leaf disease.  Without these heavy spray regimens, most known apple varieties would simply not produce edible fruit or eventually die of disease. To simplify, purchasing readily available fruit trees from local big chain sources, and planting them out for wildlife, will often result in poor survival rates and poor yields.
Andy’s breeding program is staggering, even by major University standards. 8,000 new fruit trees in the program will be tested, just next spring alone! The aim has always been simple, achieve the highest levels of disease resistance, without compromising on fruit quality or taste. Andy has also had strict selection criteria: the trees must be proven, exhibit high levels of vigor/growth rates, and exhibit heavy annual apple bearing patterns always with unprecedented disease resistance. With this genetic trifecta, the land manager now has real world fruit trees to accomplish the wildlife goal of having the best, most desirable, and strongest draw of a food source there is.

When you attend this seminar, you will walk away with the understanding and knowledge to be successful with apples as well as other fruit trees on your hunting sites. This will allow you to dominate your hunting area with one of the most powerful whitetail attractants there is.

This advanced program in the hunting world is brought to you by Gingerich Tree Farm as well as Don Higgins and The Whitetail Master Academy.
